Objectives
To ensure delegates have a full understanding of the basic principles to be carried out in the event of an accident in the workplace.
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

Understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions;
-
Understand the importance of basic hygiene in first-aid procedures;
-
Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
-
Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure;
-
Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
-
Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock;
-
Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
-
Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.

Recognising the presence of major illness and applying general first aid principles in its management.

In addition, candidates should be able to demonstrate the correct first-aid management of:

Soft tissue injuries;
-
Injuries to bones including suspected spinal injuries;
-
Chest injuries;
-
Burns and scalds;
-
Eye injuries including how to irrigate an eye;
-
Sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock.
Training method
Highly participative with both theory and practical sessions, highlighted by the use of Models andVideo with group and individual exercises.Practical and Theory Test administered by Authorising Bodies.
This course can be delivered on client’s premises depending on facilities and delegate numbers.
Course duration
3 DaysOpen/Multi client courses run at our Wakefield centre are day release over 3 weeks
3 day block courses can be arranged.
Number of delegates
As little as one delegate can enrol on to our scheduled open courses.In-company courses can be arranged for a minimum of ten delegates and accommodate a maximum of twelve.
Courses can be arranged to meet client's timetables and work schedules. As an alternative places can be booked onto our open / multi client based courses
A room large enough, with an electrical supply, will be required for the theory session for deliver on clients premises.
Refreshing This Qualification
To maintain a First Aid at Work qualification you will need to re-qualify by completing a two day Re-qualification course before the expiry date shown on your certificate. Click Here to view this course.Certification for this course is valid for a period of three years.
The HSE strongly recommends that you attend a refresher session once every year during this three year period. Click Here to view this course.

This course meets the criteria for CITB grants.The UTN administration section will give full support for the application of this grant.
