NRSWA Signing, Lighting and Guarding - Unit 002
This course designed for all personnel employed by local authorities, utilities and their contractors for the purpose of any road works in the highway.
This course will certificate the successful candidate to undertake the setting out of traffic lights, signs, cones and barriers.

Full Details
Objectives
On completion of the course delegates will be able to:-- Understand the safety implications of carrying out streetworks, with particular reference to the protection of persons engaged on the works and avoidance of danger to the general public
- Appreciate the need to maintain the free movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the site of the works to comply with the restrictions imposed by the works and the adoption of safe working practices
- Demonstrate the correct layout of appropriate signs, barriers, lamps, warning notices etc in compliance with the relevant advisory documents
- Recognise conditions that may necessitate the introduction of special measures such as the installation of portable traffic signals, traffic diversion, road closure etc
- Maintain the correct operation of portable traffic signals and reposition equipment as work proceeds.
Training Method
The course format is based around a morning classroom session covering the theory & legislation side as well as a risk assessment.The afternoon practical / assessment session involves the delegates in a hands on situation actually setting up a two-way traffic light set, signs cones & barriers
On-site Requirements
If this course is to be undertaken away from our training centre, adequate facilities in the form of a roadway with the unpredicted movement of both vehicles and pedestrians, together with the necessary signs, cones and barriers.A classroom facility with electricity supply is required for the theory session
Safety Equipment
All delegates should have available & bring with them the following safety equipment.- Safety boots
- Gloves
- Hardhat
- Fluorescent jacket
- Waterproofs
Number of delegates
As little as 1 delegate on our open scheduled courses. In-company courses can be arranged for a minimum or 8 and accommodate a maximum of 12.Books Provided

Certification
The delegate who successfully completes this course will recieve an accredited City & Guilds certificate.Note
This course meets the criteria for CITB grants.The UTN administration section will give full support for the application of this grant.
