A Hull man found employment just three weeks after renewing his IPAF Operator PAL Card with UTN Training. Richard Winship, a pipe fitter/welder, had been unemployed for 10 weeks when his PAL Card came up for renewal. He said: “I’ve found that nine out of 10 companies advertising for employees in my line of work state ‘IPAF operator licence applicants preferred’. I can’t categorically say that renewing my licence with UTN Training was the main reason I found a job, but it certainly would have counted strongly in my favour. The UTN Training instructor did a first class job and the course was held locally and was competitively priced.”
I have dealt with UTN for approximately 18 months and during that time they have developed a strong understanding of our requirements, which makes dealing with them easy. The type of training I book can range from just one course for an individual through to multiple courses for large groups of contractors, and UTN can always accommodate our requirements at locations to suit us.”

I’m writing to let you know on behalf of the Lewis and Graves Partnership, myself and my colleagues we would like to say a very big thank you to UTN for another fantastic course. This is something we have grown accustomed to over the years of using UTN for all our training, IPAF, PASMA, IOSH etc.
However even though we now take this for granted, being a trainer and assessor within our company’s industry, I’m a firm believer in letting your company know when we have received a good service from an instructor. Our instructor was Jason and I must say he was one of the most professional and knowledgeable persons I have had the pleasure of making their acquaintance. He had the ability when training to bring it to a level that reflected our own industry, which is extremely beneficial within a health and safety point of view. We also had two operatives attending the course of whom do struggle to understand the theory side to the health and safety part of the course. Jason was patient and was able to make them feel comfortable and understand. This was done in a manner that did not make them feel belittled in anyway and actually gave them confidence.
Within the practical environmental he was able to make them understand how important safety is and how to operate a machine in the safest possible way, without frightening someone. I was extremely impressed with both Jason’s professional approach and enthusiasm for the job he does. I will now carry out the NEBOSH training with your company, so I very much look forward to this.
But again a big thank you to UTN and Jason.
The Christmas Decorators work extensively throughout the UK and overseas to create Christmas magic and their worldwide projects include decorating the giant Christmas tree in Manger Square, Bethlehem.
To carry out their work, employees at the company’s 36 UK offices need to have a good understanding of street and highway regulations and working at height – so they regularly attend UTN Training courses at UTN’s 21 centres throughout the UK.
Two of the most recent employees to undertake training were Mark and Allan from the company’s Wirral and Chester office. They recently took part in a one-day New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) course in Signing, Lighting and Guarding at UTN’s Liverpool training centre.
Mark said: “The course covered highway regulations which included the correct installation of barriers, bollards, road signs and traffic lights. The course was informative and engaging and we had the opportunity to practice what we had learnt on an actual highway. I learnt a lot and now have the skills needed to work safely on streets and roads, to not only safeguard pedestrians and motorists but also myself and colleagues.”
A Nottingham church has been singing the praises of UTN Training after five members of the church’s facilities management team attended one of our IPAF operator training courses at the East Midlands Training Centre.
William Pickett, Trent Vineyard Facilities Manager, was one of the five to undertake the training. He said: “The UTN instructor was informative and the theory and practical testing was very good. We have our own scissor lift which I use regularly but I’ve not used a boom lift very often so it was particularly helpful that I also had the opportunity to operate a boom during the course.”
“The Trent Vineyard facilities management team carry out a lot of high level access work and with Christmas fast approaching and decorations, lights and Christmas trees to erect, our need to work at height will be even greater,” he added.
Mr Pickett was so impressed with the training he received from UTN that he is now looking to book the PASMA Towers For Users course.
I confirm that I have dealt with UTN Training since July 2010, during which time they have been very accommodating to meet our funding requirements and eligibility criteria, and have successfully trained in excess of 200 candidates whom we have referred in for training.
Their work has been a major factor in our projects success and I have found each employee of UTN to be professional and a pleasure to work with. UTN have consistently demonstrated their willingness to cooperate and adapt to any changes to our projects criteria.
Feedback from my project staff suggests that communication between our team and UTN has always been prompt and effective. Our project was dependant upon evidentiary documentation the training provider had to complete with each candidate. This paperwork was quite labour intensive; however our project administrators have said that UTNs evidentiary paperwork was exemplary.
I can confidently recommend UTN as a solid and reliable supplier, and experts in their field.Rachel Mather
I feel compelled to send this letter of gratitude for the quality of your service over the last two years that we have been using UTN training, as you are aware we have used almost your whole spectrum of services including First aid, NRSWA, confined space, managing IOSH to name a few.
It seems that what ever the request we make you and your team always go that extra mile to ensure that the needs of the Spice group and H2o water services are catered for, so once again a big thank you to you and the team.
I look forward to continuing our relationship and developing a more efficient and safer trained workforce.
We recently sent an Operations Manager on the above training to Wakefield. Nothing wrong in that you might think, except the usual comments abounded prior to attendance, "the course is too long, can't afford the time, do I need this", etc.
UTN however had other things on their mind, for on his return, the ops' manger in question had nothing but praise for the course organisation, structure, presentation and delivery.
The ability and knowledge of the staff in answering questions was second to none and blew me away....he thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
We need to do this more often. On behalf of Skanska, thank you UTN.
I would just like to express my thanks and some positive feedback on the working relationship and standard of service that UTN has provided Morgan Sindall to this point.
As you promised at the onset, communication and constant liaison between your staff and my Training Department has been nothing short of excellent. This in no small way based on the proactive and professional manner in which Trina Taylor works with us.
Trina has always responded to any queries or requests in a manner which is a credit to your Company. Feedback from my Training Co-ordinator prompted me to specifically mention Trina.
You have delivered everything you detailed in our initial meeting and to a 1st Class Standard.
The Training provided and facilities in which you deliver the courses repeatedly receive positive feedback from our personnel.
I hope going forward we can continue to make you our Primary Training Provider and maintain the excellent working relationship between our two Companies.
Again my sincere thanks on a job well done!Chris Rolls HSE Manager Infrastructure
Working as the heath & safety manager for Complete Access Specialist Contracts Ltd, who specialise in providing protection scaffolding for the UK electricity transmission industry, it is crucial that I have a thorough knowledge of advanced scaffolds and their subsequent mandatory Inspection requirements. I found that UTN’s 2-day (CISRS Accredited) Advanced Scaffold Inspection course invaluable. The depth of knowledge that the instructor holds is impressive, the course content and handouts were first-class. The administrativestaff were of great help both prior to and during the course. The venue is excellent and a generous buffet lunch was provided on a daily basis. I would not hesitate in recommending UTN as a training provider and this course especially to any one or organisation that is committed to improving heath & safety standards within the scaffolding Industry.Colin Teale
Having been given the task of organising safety training for the Managers and Supervisors of our group I began with the usual search on the internet. Training providers are abundant but difficult to pin down on specific courses when you want them.
When I came across UTN training in Wakefield a bell rang, we had used them in the past for other members of staff. A phone call soon had the training on track and courses were now being booked to suit staff availability and company work programmes.
As with most events in the calendar, personnel always seem to want to change the schedule after the event, either through new work commitments or deciding to be on holiday. In this case changing their availability for the course, after a phone call to UTN Training the course was re-booked. Within the hour the person concerned reported their availability for the original booking, a phone call later and all was re-booked without the slightest hesitation from the staff at UTN Training.
With the majority of our staff having completed the required safety training I have had only good reports on the course and the staff from all concerned.
I can say that all the dealings that I have had with UTN Training staff have been handled in a highly professional and courteous manner where any issues even at very short notice have been resolved. I would recommend the use of UTN Training to anyone with the responsibility for safety training.JP Margrave
We used UTN for the Site Management Safety Training Scheme Courses and I must say they were excellent from start to finish...from the jolly, polite and informative sales team, right through to receiving the certification.Colin Teale
Will you please pass on my sincere thanks to the UTN staff for all their help, especially the girls in the office. They were always helpful and polite. I didn't get chance to pass on my thanks personally following the exam as I had to leave quickly. I have no hesitation in recommending UTN to anyone in the future.Kind Regards
